i read this break down of the differences between art and design, and for the most part agreed with the entire analysis. as i continued down the page however, i had a repeating thought. art is passion, design is a career. yes one can be passionate about design or make art into a career, but really (to me at least) that is what it comes down to. reading this was interesting for me, having been thinking so much about why i want to get into design, before and after doing the homework, and it actually made me make a few changes as to what i wanted to say and how i am thinking.

Excellent observations, Sam. You can see why this really is an ongoing debate. This is the kind of topic we deal with on a daily basis in the design world. And of course, it's up to us to make the final decision for ourselves. And just like anything else, the more we examine this, the better our understanding-- and ultimately, the better our work.
